We have recently updated our bird list for Ernest Ullmann Park and the Sandspruit to include sightings by Jane Carruthers, Merle Finch and others. The list now has ninety confirmed species including a few rarities in Johannesburg like the Glossy Ibis and White Stork. For a complete list, click the button above.
The latest new sighting was made a few months ago by a team of African Legacy members whilst carrying out erosion protection work in Ernest Ullmann Park. An Orange-breasted Waxbill landed right next to us and proceeded to bathe itself in the river no more than a couple of metres from us. The picture below is of the actual bird we saw bathing. We suspect that this one is a juvenile, so hopefully they are breeding in the area...
If you would like to create your own list of bird sightings then you are free to do so. You will need to log in or register with African Legacy in order to to identify your personal lists. Registration is a quick once-off process than can be done at any time by using the menu at the top of the page or by clicking here... We promise not to pass your information on to anyone else!
Once you are registered and logged in, you will see "My Lists" under the "Info" menu.
Here you can add, delete or rename your lists. To add a bird to your list, look it up in our Birdbase, then scroll to the end of the bird page and check the list or lists you would like to add it to. Save changes and your list will be updated.
When we give cheerfully and accept gratefully, everyone is blessed.
